Chateau La Nerthe is one of the most prestigious estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape thanks both to its history and its extensive vineyard holdings. The origins of the property can be traced back to 1560 when it was first founded by the Tulle de Villefranche family. Over the intervening years it has grown into an excellent producer of classic Rhone Valley wines thanks to its 92 hectares of vineyards spread across 57 different plots. This easy-going Cote du Rhone Village is sourced from Domaine Renjarde’s vineyards in Serignan-du-Comtat which are managed by the Chateau La Nerthe team. The Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre vines here are over 40 years old, helping to produce intense and concentrated fruit that’s ideal for premium winemaking. In the glass you’ll immediately notice the vibrant ruby red hue and enticing hints of cherry, plum, and spice from the oak ageing. On the palate there’s a balanced medium body, smooth tannins, and a robust core of bright red fruit that lingers long on the palate. The easy-going nature of this red makes it a great choice to enjoy alongside a casual family dinner, or you could cellar it for a few more years if desired.
