The Hotel Charleston opened as a hotel in the late 1990s in the seventh-century Santa Teresa Carmelite convent in Cartagena's historic walled district. Guests enter the six-floor salmon and gold-colored hotel into a colonial-style lobby with a center courtyard surrounded by an arched pillared hallway with a reception alcove and conversation areas. Wooden beamed ceilings, wrought iron chandeliers, paintings and decorations are true to the seventh century. The hotel is within walking distance of museums, churches, and restaurants.
