Champagne Drappier Carte d'Or Brut

Enjoy it now, or cellar for a few more years. No need to decant before serving. Contrary to its golden yellow appearance, Carte d’Or is bursting with rich notes of red fruits, quince jam, rose petals, and white stone fruit. It is a Blanc de Noirs for the most part, made from 80% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay, and 5% Pinot Meunier. It was sourced from limestone-rich soils in the heart of the Côte de Bar, which impart a strong mineral vein, and has been a staple cuvée of the winery since 1952. Champagne Drappier has been a staunchly family winery since its foundation in 1808, when François Drappier settled in Urville and began growing grapes. Today, it is under the leadership of an eighth generation of Drappiers, who earned the winery’s carbon-neutral accreditation. The winery-owned vineyards span 62 hectares in all, but the winemakers also draw from growers around Champagne. It is layered and powerful in the mouth, enveloping the tongue in a light fizz and red fruit notes, with undercurrents of spice, lemon zest, and peach. Carte d’Or bears no vintage, as 40% of the blend comes from reserve wines, the finest selections from previous harvests. This is Champagne Drappier’s signature wine, and a great way to start exploring the winery. Consider pairing it with poultry, fish in white sauce, or a soft cheese.
