Capichera has an impressive reputation for producing top quality Vermentino and ranks amongst Sardinia’s finest producers of this light and refreshing style of white wine. The estate has been in the same family since the 19th century, but it was only in 1980 that they bottled their first Vermentino. Since then they have drawn critical acclaim from all over the globe for their wines, with one Italian wine journalist, Luigi Veronelli, describing their pioneering bold style as “a Mediterranean Montrachet”. The name of this particular Vermentino, “Vign'Angena”, means “vineyard of others” in the local Gallura dialect since the grapes used to be sourced from vineyards not owned by the estate. Today these plots are owned by Capichera, giving them greater control over how they are managed. This lively Vermentino is aged in stainless steel tanks to showcase the pure varietal character and preserve plenty of freshness and fruit. The light body and dynamic flavour profile with plenty of vibrant citrus and tropical fruit and bright streak of acidity makes this a great aperitif. It also pairs well with seafood, fish, and classic local dishes like fresh pasta served with seafood or even tuna tartare.
