Enjoy it now, or within 2 years of bottling. No need to decant before serving. Founded by the son of a farmer in 1968, Bortolin Angelo winery has become renowned within the Prosecco DOC for its high-quality sparkling wine. Angelo Bortolin built the winery’s reputation himself, but since 1993 his three children have also become heavily involved in the business. Bortolin Angelo winery is in the Conegliano-Valdobbiadene sub-region. The best vineyards here are found in the same environment as the winery itself - the precipitous edges of the Alps. Some vineyards are planted on slopes so steep that the Glera grapes can only be harvested by hand. Valdobbiadene is widely considered to be the best region for Prosecco in the whole of Treviso. The Valdobbiadene Extra Dry is a pale straw yellow, with fine perlage shooting upwards through the glass. Sweet scents of lightly toasted almonds and white flowers erupt from the bottle's neck, which is designed to imitate a twisting vine root. Notes of peach, pear, apple and light citrus mix on the palate, with some slight herbaceousness. It contains both a creaminess and minerality, with further notes of almond on the finish. Best served chilled, in a large glass for aeration. It will be excellent as an aperitif, or served with a citrus dessert, like a lemon tart or meringue pie.
