In those days it was known as the ''White Lion“ and served as an overnight resting place for travellers arriving too late to pass into old Prague City through the town gate, nowadays known as the Powder Gate. This Gate used to be closed every day at dusk. In the 17th century, the son of the empress Marie Terezie, the emperor Josef II spend a night here. In honor of him the hotel was re-named to „The City Vienna“. Today, guests at this hotel will enjoy all the comforts of the 21st century.
