For 50 years, starting in 1870, Annie Chambers was one of Kansas City’s most notable brothel owners. The era’s most powerful men were her clients, and the story of this widow, mother and entrepreneur is intertwined with the city’s wild roots. But her name has been all but forgotten. This walking tour is a guide to her untold story. It starts at the main entrance of the River Market, carries on down to a view of the Missouri River, then cuts back through a few of the neighborhood’s most historic blocks.
