Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour and half. Founded by Curtis McBride and his winemaker friend Kent Rasmussen in 2008, 689 Cellars is a winery located in California's Napa Valley. The name comes from Chinese numerology, in fact, the numbers 6,8, and 9 are considered auspicious. By collaborating with local winemakers, the company produces wines known worldwide for their approachability and excellent value for money. These are wines that combine the experiences of Curtis and Kent and reflect the terroirs of Napa Valley. The Hype is made from a majority of Cabernet Sauvignon with a small addition of Malbec. The grapes are selected in the wine regions of Sonoma, Lodi, and Paso Robles to fully express the characteristics of these world-famous regions. The color is deep and brilliant, almost purplish in the center and with lighter shades on the edges. On the nose, this splendid Cabernet Sauvignon is an explosion of red and dark fruit jam, especially cassis, blackberry, plums, and black cherries, followed by floral tones of violet and hints of tobacco. On the palate, the wine is rich and harmonious. The flavors of dark fruit are once again intense and the tannins are ripe and velvety. It is a full-bodied wine with a persistent finish reminiscent of spicy notes. Not to be missed with barbecued meat, it also goes well with lamb.
